Since 2007, the left-handed Umar Amin has been among the most-talked about batting prospects for a future middle order without Younis Khan and Mohammad Yousuf, even if he prefers opening himself. Function and efficiency win out over grace and style, but there is little doubting his methods have been effective and can be doubly so in future.
It was a short first stint at the international level though and after a handful of Tests and ODIs, he was back in the domestic circuit. After some strong performances in the President’s Trophy in 2012-13, where he finished as the top scorer and also hit a 281 against Habib Bank Ltd, he was recalled to the national squad for the 2013 Champions Trophy in England
